For the first time in my photography career,  I had to hand over a clients’ framed portrait with sadness and a heaviness in my heart.

It was a framed portrait I took 4 years ago for their extended family portrait.

We had a great time at Oatley park and the photos we took of her girls spinning around on the jetty were still so vivid in my memory as I recall how much fun they were having, laughing over a simple pleasure in life.

michelle2girlsportrait2Life is too short. We just don’t know when our time here will end.

All of a sudden, I realise how photographs and memories of our loved ones play a far more important role….but even more more so is the preciousness of life.

Goodbye Michelle. We are praying for your family and loved ones today.

  • Mel - Gorgeous post and so so sad :( You are right though, photos are so important and you don’t know when your time is up. Keep up the great work you do :) Mel

A beautiful Autumn day for a St Judes Anglican Church wedding in Dural with two young love birds. We connected so well when we first met and realised we were both Fine Arts students who majored in Photomedia ….and Bec was about to marry a Scientist (not quite the same type of Scientist…..) just like I did :)

Bec’s gorgeous lace dress was from Akina Bridal Couture at Castle Hill and her shoes were by Alan Pinkus.

The old stone church had amazing grounds and a beautiful vine wall and cute little red door; the perfect backdrop for a St Judes Anglican Church wedding. We could have had all the location photos there! The reception was at The Waterview Restaurant in Berowra Waters and they farewelled their guests in a slightly non traditional way…. in a NSW Rural Fire service boat! All in all it was a wonderful day full of beautiful details with stories behind each symbol like the rope around her ankle and the hand drawn wedding booklets and table numbers.

We’ve been working with a lot of mums lately and I’ve been reminded how tough it was when I first became a Mum when Timmy was born and for the year following. I felt that who I was had changed, and who I knew myself to be was pushed aside to be who HE needed me to be. At times I wondered how other mums did it without the help of their partners, their own mums and their girl friends supporting and encouraging them along the journey.

Everyone  told me ‘this is just a phase’, ‘this too will pass’, ‘you’ll feel like yourself soon’, ‘enjoy these precious moments as before you know it they’ll be too big to hold’ (when your arm aches from holding him from 3am – 11am!) when all I wanted to do was sleep for more than 3 hour blocks and shower without my background music being a screaming baby! But what I’ve learnt so far is that all this pressure and all this change is like the creation of a diamond. Pressure, as painful as it is, is necessary to transform into something beautiful.

So many mums do not have the revelation for themselves yet and we want to remind them that they are beautiful and valuable no matter how they feel or the season of life that they are in. We would love to bless a mum as we know how tough it is and how at times we devalue ourselves for the sake of our families.

As Mother’s Day approaches I start to think about all the new mums we’ve been meeting and the amazing stories and journeys we hear of their pregnancy and the lead up to meeting their baby. It truly is a miracle when a baby is born and I’ve been so thankful to capture these moments for new parents. If you are a parent, you will know that feeling when you meet your baby for the first time is indescribable; the newborn smell is something you only have a few weeks of their life to enjoy and the little smiles when they sleep are just priceless!

We’re so thankful to be a part of this magical time in a families life!  Getting to create art that celebrates life and the miracle of your newborn has been such a blessing

If you have ever wanted to feel like you’ve travelled halfway across the globe for a coffee, this is THE PLACE for a taste of Paris. The French House in Waterloo were so lovely and welcoming when Will called them up and explained Katie’s obsession with French cafes and coffee, they went above and beyond to make sure there were even fresh flowers waiting for them for the shoot.

This old-fashioned Parisian patisserie feels like you’ve taken a step back in time and place as it comes complete with gold-framed mirrors, faux-Louis XIV portraits, dangling chandeliers, glass cabinets and antique chairs. They serve a wide range of  quiches, sandwiches and of course lovely tarts and cakes which you can enjoy either on the long table indoors under the chandelier or outside on the covered deck.

Angela and her team are so welcoming and the French House cafe definitely brings a little bit of Paris charm to Waterloo.
